Get your blog up and running without breaking the bank
You’ve finally decided to be a blogger? CONGRATS!! Let me tell you, it’s the best decision you’ll ever make. It was for me at least. Not that long ago, I was newbie blogger so I know exactly the feeling you’re having. You’re either excited and can’t wait to publish your first post, OR you’re scared as hell because you don’t even know where to start. Am I right so far? Most likely.
So, you’re ready to start your new blogging journey…
Webinars, the one thing I’ve seen intimidate creative entrepreneurs, including myself, from advancing in their business. Webinars, or live workshops, have seen significant rising in the blogging world. I’ve signed up for plenty of webinars and still am.
They are a great way to deliver information to your audience because it gives a feeling of a personal connection. Webinars have awesome advantages, but they also have their disadvantages, which is a topic for another blog post coming soon. Stay on the lookout *wink*.
Today, I want to shed light and give you the top 5 reasons why it is really intimidating for newbies to host their very first webinar or live workshop and here they are below:
Top 5 Reasons Webinars Intimidate Creative Entrepreneurs
Afraid to Bomb/Fail
There are so many technical difficulties that can go wrong when it comes to hosting webinars. You have lighting, static/gritty screen, internet connection, webinar software goes down with their own technical difficulties, your mic or screen suddenly goes out, missing slides, slides don’t work, etc etc.
No one wants to suffer through any kind of technical difficulties let alone for newbies hosting their very first one! YIKES!! Talk about bad luck, right? All you can do is send a broadcast to those who signed up for the webinar, let them know what happened and plan to reschedule. They’ll totally understand.
Don’t Feel Qualified to Teach
This is an overall issue within the blogging world where we as bloggers feel they’re not qualified enough to teach other people on certain topics. We feel as though we don’t have the knowledge or enough expertise to feel qualified enough to establish ourselves as an expert in our field.
I’m here to tell you, you don’t have to have a certain amount of expertise. You don’t have to have been blogging for a certain amount of time or have some fancy degree to teach someone on a specific topic.
The trick is as long as you have a little bit more knowledge than your audience, you are qualified to establish yourself as an expert. It can be a helpful tip, successful trick, or a time-saving hack that reaches a certain result faster.
If you know this is a piece of information that no one really knows about that your reader can benefit from, you have the expertise to teach it.
No One Purchases your Products or Services
We as bloggers are no strangers to the hype of others hosting a successful webinar. If you deliver great content during the webinar and pitch a product or service at the end, you’re bound to make sales.
Allison from Wonderlass made $2k during her first webinar and so did Mariah from Fempreneur, who made $4k with hosting her first webinar. Talk about beginner’s luck, huh? With all of the successful sales, you’d want to try your hand at it too and I definitely don’t blame you.
Even earning just $100 from your very first webinar is deemed a success in my book. There’s always that possibility that you end up making no sales whatsoever. It’d make you feel a lil shitty and you’d start to regret that you even tried hosting a webinar and prevent you from hosting any time in the future.
Well if this happens, I say allow yourself to feel bad for about a minute or 2 then snap out of it! This is nothing, but a learning experience. Evaluate the webinar plan and highlight what you think worked and what you knew didn’t work. You’ll know what to do and what not to do in your next webinar. Besides, this experience could make for an informational blog post =)
No One Shows Up
This would break anyone’s heart. To know that all of your hard work resulted in complete failure. You worked so hard to come up with the content and organize them perfectly in your slides, you designed your opt-in and thank you pages, sent out informational and fun reminder emails, and you promoted the hell out of this webinar.
You can’t sleep the night before because you’re so excited. The day finally comes and you get all dressed up, hair and makeup looking good and your outfit on point and you’ve got only a couple of minutes before you go live. You decide to quickly grab a bite to eat and grab your favorite beverage and head back into your office.
30 seconds until live so you’re doing last minute lighting and mic adjustments and now it’s time to go live! You press the button and then……crickets. No one is there, but you know they’re last minute stragglers so you start anyway and just give it time. As you’re talking 5 minutes go by…..then 10…..then 15 and no one is there.
You finish the webinar, run to the bathroom, and just ball your eyes out. You feel like no one likes you, you did all of this work for nothing, you call yourself a failure and so on. Instead of beating yourself up, see this as a practice run and something you can check off of your blogging to do lists.
YOU JUST HOSTED YOUR FIRST WEBINAR! You conquered your fear! Just because no one showed up doesn’t mean you’re a failure whatsoever. It classifies you as a risk taker and a fear conqueror. You did something you never thought you’d have the courage to do. Pat yourself on the back, babe!
WE’RE FREAKIN INTROVERTS!
The mere thought of approaching a stranger is enough to make you pee your pants, but NOW you want to put me on camera and speak in front of a couple hundred thousand million trillion strangers?! Just throw me to a pack of wolves!!
Naw foreal though, I, like plenty of other creatives, are super duper shy and trying to be on camera will just amplify that anxiety x1000,000. To get over this feeling, I say do some of your favorite calming exercises.
What breathing patterns do you usually do to calm yourself down? Imagine you’re talking to a family member or best friend. Keep a cup of water beside you just in case your mouth starts to get dry.
If you’re too nervous, keep a stress ball in your lap. When you feel yourself starting to get overanxious, squeeze the ball really tight a couple of times and imagine your hands are a passageway for all the anxiety to travel from your body to the ball. You should start feeling a little better afterward.
THERE YOU HAVE IT! The top 5 reasons webinars intimidate creative entrepreneurs! Have you hosted a webinar before? How was your first time?
Did you bomb or was a hit? Did you make any sales? Let me know in the comments because I’ll be hosting my very first webinar in the upcoming weeks and I’d like to get some insight on a couple of webinar dos and don’ts!
Have you ever wondered how is it that your favorite bloggers are making over $100,000 a year or maybe even a month and you’re stuck with making under $100? It’s intimidating, isn’t it?
You may say to yourself how if you were making that much, you’d be able to buy that brand new car, purchase your dream house, be able to stay home with family or go out with friends, even leave to go travel all over the world.
But, who says you can’t do it too? You can make just as much as they can. I know you’re probably saying to yourself omg not another inspirational post, but really it’s not. I’m just telling you what it is.
You can make $5, $10, $50, $300, $500, $1000 even. There are so many free and paid resources you can use to make this happen on your own.
Are you asking yourself who am I to tell you what you can do when I don’t even know you? Easy. I’m the girl that just turned a $20 income to $300 in two weeks. That’s who I am.
I was feeling the EXACT same way you were for months, maybe even worse. I had two hard breakdowns crying because I was only making $20 in exchange for long days and even longer nights between cooking, cleaning, working through nap time, and everything else.
I was spending countless amounts of money I DIDN’T have, investing in courses and ebooks to better myself and grow my business. Some of those strategies worked, others failed horribly.
Last month, I finally saw the fruits of my labor when I got that first email notification. I had made an affiliate sale for $10. No big deal right? A little time after, I received another email about an affiliate sale. This one was for $13.Made over $20 so I saw a small bit of progress…..until around late that night.
I started getting back to back emails of affiliate sales. $10, $10, $0.33, $8.75. I ended up with a total of 10 emails in one night making $100 in that one day. I was ecstatic, but then the next 3-5 emails made a significant change. Below is an unedited screenshot collage of my GMAIL account of notifications for sales I made in July. This isn’t even the full month’s notifications!
I was able to pre-sell my ebook right after I had just posted the sales page. I hosted a secret ebook pre-sell as an experiment to see if it would work for me after seeing so many others do it. I wasn’t expecting to make anything, but within the first few minutes, I pre-sold it for $40!
I proved to myself that no matter what level of blogging you’re at, you can make money even when you’re doubting yourself. What is my ebook that made me $40 the first few minutes that I’m still getting PayPal notifications for? It’s called:

Your turn! Tell me, what breakdowns, setbacks, etc have you overcome so far and have used to keep fighting every day to leave your mark on the world? What gave you your strength to keep going and not give up?
As a mother of two little girls, I would absolutely ADORE the opportunity to create an online business so I can be a stay at home mom AND make a full-time income from home.
When I was 5-6 months pregnant with Laila, I started heavily looking for online jobs. I wanted to be able to have some type of income while on maternity leave until I was cleared to go back to work.
My mom told me to start a blog. I knew NOTHING about blogging, but that meant I had to do some in-depth research before I decided to commit to blogging. Every day after work, I had a pen and paper in hand trying to learn as much as I could about blogging.
One night at 2 am, I purchased both my domain name and hosting package. I’d come home from work and slowly put my blog together little by little. I would wake up tired. but looking forward to coming home from work.
I was placed on emergency maternity leave due to a condition called placenta previa where my placenta was too low. Shortly after submitting my paperwork, I was fired on maternity leave. Why? I have no clue, but instead of being mad, it sparked a fire inside me.
In that moment, I knew I was DONE working my butt off to make someone else’s dream come true. I was ready to have my own business. I wanted a business that let me stay home with my two daughters and make money to support us.
I was determined to make this new venture my business. I started to pour every dollar, sweat, tear, whatever I had to do to get my blog up and running. 3 months later, I was doing pretty good.
I had my daughter, I made my first income in April with affiliate marketing, and I released my course, Become an Affiliate Blogger. I still wasn’t progressing as I’d hoped. Come to find out, I was treating my blog as just a regular blog.
In order for my blog to be a business, I had to treat it as a business. I had no direction, no business plan, nothing. I didn’t even know where to begin. I was feeling lost and unsure of myself and doubted my blog could be a business so I got my shit together in 7 steps:
1) Changing Your Mindset
This is a crucial part of being able to build your online business. It is mandatory to have the entrepreneurial mindset to run an online business.
This journey is going to take you to hell and back. If you’re the type to crack under pressure or freak out over the smallest thing, this isn’t for you.
You’re going to have really good days and along with those bad days that will break you like you’ve never been broken before. You need to know now that it can take weeks, months, and maybe even years before your business gets the exposure you need.
This job takes a great amount of determination and non-stop dedication to make it thrive. Be ready to do WHATEVER it takes. My mindset changed when I came across this resource and after I joined this group of AWESOME entrepreneurs. Check it out when you have time.
Because we’re trying to build a business, we need to have a steady focus. Without focus, you’ll be all over the place which can cost you time and money.
I should know since I was lost for almost two months. No business plan whatsoever. No direction, no focus, no goals, NADA! Looking back, I realized I lost money AND left money on the table! Like wtf Tia?
To prevent the same from happening to you, what is the main niche or focus of your business? Are you going to build a store? What will the store contain? Is it a blog? What is your niche?
After you figure out what the focus of your business will be, it’s time to determine your…..
3) Perfect Customer
This is one of the main moving parts of your business. This needs to be defined before you do anything else! It’s really easy so don’t panic. Just answer these short questions, but make sure you put some thought into it. The more specific you are, the better designed your products will be.
2. Male or Female
3. In College or Graduate
4. Kids or No Kids
5. Single, Married or Divorced
6. Stay at Home Parent or Working Parent
7. What is their salary range?
*Remember, the more specific you are, the better your products will be designed*
You know how everyone asks what your goals are just to be nosy? Well, this time you really need to know what they are.
These will help you know what direction to guide your business in. How much money are you trying to make?
What products and services are you trying to provide? Why? What is the goal of your product or service? With your goals, you’re going to need a budget.
What is the minimum you can invest in your business? What is the max you can invest? After all bills are paid, how much do you think you can add to your budget?
Knowing how to schedule the time to work on your business is another important aspect of running an online business. This is a huge venture and you have to split your time wisely. This is really important if you have a full-time or part-time job.
If you’re a stay at home and full-time online business owner, you would probably schedule the time to work on your business early in the morning, during nap time, and when they go to bed for the night.
Depending on what time you have to be at work in the morning and what time you come home at night, try to schedule at least 2-3 hours to work on your business.
Sit down with a pen and paper on your lunch break or when the kids are asleep and come up with a tailored schedule of when you can afford to work on your business.
You’re going to need a really good email marketing service to send your customers updates, upsells, customer service, etc. There are really great options for beginners such as MailMunch, Mailerlite, but I HIGHLY recommend Convertkit.
Convertkit is the perfect email marketing software for beginner online business owners. Okay so our website is built, we picked a free or affordable theme and customized it to our liking, and we chose the best email marketing tool to fit our needs. Now, we need people to launch your business to, which brings me to step 7…..
I love this part! In order to have a profitable launch, you’re going to need a community to launch to. You have to get out there and make connections! Nowadays with all this technology booming, it’s pretty easy. Here are some tips to start networking:

These are MY personal 7 steps to building a successful online business, but I want to also dedicate this post to Monica from Redefining Mom.
She is freaking AWESOME! She is one of few inspirational, successful online business moms that have inspired me to pursue my dream of becoming an online business owner.
I recently went through a high-risk pregnancy with my second daughter, Laila. She was very premature and we ended up staying in the NICU for almost a month. When we got home, that whole experience lit a fire under me.
I told myself when I got home I needed to find a way to turn my blog into a full-blown at home business. I did so much research that following month and I became stressed out.
Nothing I tried was working. I spent over $300 in courses and ebooks trying to gain as much knowledge as I could, but still nothing…..until I checked my email one day. I forgot I signed up for Monica’s email list after I joined her Convertkit Masterclass.
This email was about Busy Moms Building. This course is Monica’s personal strategy she used to grow her online business, Redefining Mom. I felt like the Universe heard my pleas because I was literally on the verge of quitting Everyday Tia and looking for a job.
I felt like I was a failure. No matter what I did, it failed. What I realized was I didn’t have a business plan! I didn’t have a business plan, I didn’t have clarified goals, my focus was too broad, I didn’t have a set schedule, and I sucked at building an email list.
When I checked out the course’s overview, I was sold. Everything I lacked, she covered in every single video lesson, tutorial, and I was able to use her corresponding workbook along with a budget planner, a launch spreadsheet, and more FREE bonuses valued at almost $200!
Not to mention, she had awesome guest expert interviews that helped explain the legalities and financial responsibilities. There are so many moving pieces behind building a business, but Monica made them so easy to understand.
I was able to implement something new with every lesson and to my surprise, it didn’t take any time for me to see the results of my investment.
If you don’t know who Monica is, here’s a little information:
Monica is a full-time mom and a successful online business owner. She quit her job after 11 YEARS at a Fortune 100 company in pursuit of her dream: owning a successful online business that is now Redefining Mom. She did it in 12 easily implemented steps that she has decided to share with other mompreneurs like us! If you want to learn more about Monica, click here.
Busy Moms Building doesn’t require you to have a blog, be a mom or a parent period to participate. Whether you have a full-time job or you’re an entrepreneur, if you are truly ready to commit to having an online business to give you the financial freedom you deserve, this course is for you. Not ready for a full course, grab the ebook and workbook to get you started!
Please don’t be the person I was that was working harder and not smarter. Create a business plan, declare your goals for your business, and implement those plans asap!
As you know, humans are visual by nature. Humans respond to visual data better than any other data because 90% of info transmitted to the brain is visual. The human brain processes imagery 60,000 times faster than regular text. (more…)
I was just like you a few days ago. Lost about how to tame the secret algorithm of how to gain Pinterest traffic like everyone else. The frustration, doubt, and annoyance of why I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong.
There were times where I wanted to just give up. Only rely on my Facebook traffic, but something wouldn’t let me. There’s no quitting in my blood so I kept pushing. The obsession to learn more amped itself up.
The determination to keep going sparked and it led me to this:
Welcome to my very FIRST income report! I am soo excited! This was a rocky month for us. My daughter, Laila, was born prematurely via emergency c-section and was rushed to the NICU where we spent 2-3 weeks until we were able to come home. (more…)
I know I am not the only blogger in the world to give Pinterest its praise. Pinterest is the new Google. It isn’t just a regular social media site because there’s really no communication. This is a bookmarking site of beautiful visuals that lead to great content from all over the world. Whether it be yoga for beginners or no bake cheesecake, whatever you need can be found here.

Pinterest is a HUGE source of organic traffic. Organic traffic is traffic without any paid services such as ads. It is also great for bloggers and business owners.
We, as bloggers, learn from Pinterest to help us figure out what tools we need, mixed with our own strategies, to help you grow as well.
Pinterest made it possible for us to share our content, products, and services to help you grow as a person and as a business.
Now that we know how Pinterest can help bloggers grow, let’s learn how to make an affiliate sale! (more…)
It is totally understandable if you’re on a blogging budget. Everyone doesn’t start with the same amount of money when starting their blog. I emptied my account which was under $50 at the time to start my blog. Do not feel like that is what you have to do to start a blog. Everyone’s journey is different. Go with what you can afford. The most successful bloggers started on a budget so do not feel embarrassed. (more…)
